There is a new way to look at graphite art, the art that invaded streets and has reached famous galleries. Drawings and strong colors in new contexts, considered to be small works of art are now produced by women. In the Gestando Arte Project, the group Formação Orientada para Mulheres, organized by CAPEM in Duque de Caxias (RJ), graphite techniques have lead to the development of new fashion elements, like t-shirts and other props.

With a paint brush in their hands, a lot of creativity and numerous colors, their art has been seen by their community’s walls and has left their region, known for its lack of opportunities, more beautiful and motivated. Working with design allowed many women to discover new talents. As with Claudia that after her son’s birth abandoned school and design. “With the project, I resumed the pleasure of drawing. If I could, I would never stop” she says.

A similar situation was experienced by Elioene who found a new way to elevate her morale. On top of this, she also used the technique as a means to bring more money home. “I saw in the course the opportunity to generate income besides being part of a group of women who are always seeking to improve”, she comments.

However for Claudiana, paint brushes, colors and lines were her gateway for self-awareness. In painting classes, she discovered a hidden woman inside herself and realized, for the first time, that she could become whoever she pleased. “I had time to think about myself in the course, in who I was and in what I really wanted from life”, she finalizes.
